ABSTRACT

A study was carried out in southern part of Ukwunai Local Government of Delta State using the Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the latitudes, longitudes and elevations of points evenly distributed within the study area. The depths to the water level in the hand-dug wells were measured directly with the aid of a meter tape. The static water levels at different locations were obtained by subtracting the elevation with respect to the mean sea level from the depts. To the water level in the hand-dug wells and  used to generate the contour map of the study area. According  to Buddermeier and Schloss (2000), groundwater flows from the highest values of contour lines to the lowest values in a direction perpendicular to the contour lines.
